Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 is a Nintendo DS console role-playing game published by Square Enix. It is a sequel to Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker and is the fifth game in the Dragon Quest Monsters series. It was released in Japan on April 28, 2010. At the E3 2011 conference, it was announced that the game would be released in North America on August 28, 2011.

Joker 2's gameplay follows closely to its predecessor. Players explore sections of an island and tame wild monsters into their party. Monsters fight in turn-based combat and grow stronger. Hundreds of monsters from the Dragon Quest games appear in Joker 2, with a few new species. This is the first game in the series to feature Wi-Fi support.

1. Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 Ultimate This hack is essentially DWM2 NG+ for those that have played this game many times in the past and would love a new challenge. Changes have been made to monster encounters throughout the story to provide much more variety and difficulty.

The game was followed by a 2nd edition titled Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional. The 2nd edition was released on March 31, 2011 in Japan and featured new monsters and abilities.

Gameplay[edit]

Like the game before it, the Scout is not only able to tame wild monsters through his professional scouting ability, but he can also synthesize (with the help of Dr. Lump, a lump wizard at the monster pen) two older veteran monsters into a new, stronger one.

Online[edit]

Joker 2 has Wi-Fi support and Square Enix has announced that up to eight players can connect to each other. The game will also keep track of the best players through leaderboards.

Giant monsters[edit]

Giant monsters are massive creatures that take all three monster spots and are incredibly powerful. There is one in each area: Missing lynx (with Tall Tail), Baby Bjørn, Empyrea, Wormonger, Khalamari (with Tentickles), and Sagittar.

As Monster Scouts, players can recruit wild monsters to build a team and battle against other players in this turn-based role-playing game. Each year, monster scouts from around the world gather to compete for the title of world's greatest scout. Players crash-land on a mysterious island after their airship is struck by lightning. They must rescue their missing passengers and crew members by fighting various enemies using their own monster parties. The only way off the island is to solve its many mysteries.

Much like the original, Dragon Quest Monster: Joker 2 revolves more around finding and synthing creatures to make more powerful and versatile monsters than it does on a quality storyline. You can have up to 3 monsters at once on the battlefield and gameplay is pretty straightfoward and turnbased.
For people who enjoy monster raising games (Monster Rancher, Pokemon, Digimon come to mind) then you will very likely enjoy, if not love this series. Joker 2 seems to handle synthing and advancing monsters better than the original Joker game and the storylines are unrelated so you can simply pick this one up and enjoy.
